NSIP Roads Policing Team – Lowestoft

We’re Recruiting: Police Constables for Specialist Roads Policing Roles

Suffolk Constabulary is expanding capacity to support the safe escort and movement of Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AILs) linked to major infrastructure projects — including Sizewell C and other Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). We’re seeking experienced Police Constables to join one of our dedicated teams:

  • Sizewell C AIL Team – PHQ, Martlesham
  • NSIP Roads Policing Team – Lowestoft

Responsibilities

These teams will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely movement of AILs, as well as maintaining road safety across routes experiencing increased HGV, LGV and workforce traffic. Duties include responding to road‑related incidents, Fatal 4 enforcement, and the investigation of RTCs.

Essential Criteria

  • Police Constable (post‑probation)
  • Police Advanced Car Driver or clear evidence of suitability for advanced training
  • Demonstrated interest in Roads Policing and commitment to road safety & Fatal 4 enforcement

Desirable Criteria

  • Response/advanced motorcyclist (or evidence of suitability)
  • Escorting other road users (abnormal load trained)
  • Full, up-to-date motorcycle licence
  • Experience riding high‑powered motorcycles, including in varied weather
  • Accreditation in Initial Police Pursuits, TPAC, HoSTyDS (stinger)
