Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced CDM Specialist / Principal Contractor to oversee health and safety compliance on an Energy from Waste (EfW) construction project. This temporary role is critical in ensuring full compliance with the CDM 2015 regulations, coordinating site activities, and maintaining high safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Fulfil the statutory duties of Principal Contractor under CDM 2015 for an operational EfW project.
- Develop and manage the Construction Phase Plan and ensure it is regularly reviewed and updated.
- Coordinate with the client, designers, subcontractors, and other duty holders to maintain a safe and compliant site environment.
- Manage all aspects of site safety, including inductions, permits to work, toolbox talks, and RAMS reviews.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, especially where high-risk operations are involved (e.g., confined space, hot works, HV electrical systems).
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits, reporting findings and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure that temporary works, heavy lifting, and specialist installations are properly planned and supervised.
- Maintain all statutory documentation and provide regular reports to the client and project leadership.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in CDM/Principal Contractor roles, ideally within Energy from Waste, heavy industrial, or power generation sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant UK construction and HSE regulations.
- Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Construction Certificate, SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator, etc.).
- Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on complex, high-risk projects.
