SUEZ are looking for a Technical Plant Engineer to support our Energy from Waste Plants. The more efficiently our Energy Recovery sites operate, the better they are for the environment, local communities, and our business. As a Technical Plant Engineer Mechanical, you’ll play a key role in helping our facilities operate safely, compliantly, and at peak performance.

Salary: £49,616

Benefits: Company Car OR Car allowance (£7,961.60 per annum), Up to 10% annual bonus, 5% employer pension, 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays

Location: Suffolk EFW / Based in the South East with National Travel

Hours: Monday – Friday 8.30am – 17.00pm

What will I be doing?

This is a purpose-driven role with real impact, ideal for engineers who want to combine technical expertise with sustainability, innovation, and problem-solving. You’ll work closely with the Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and technical teams, supporting day-to-day operations as well as longer-term optimisation and improvement projects. You’ll be trusted with real responsibility from day one, while being supported through mentoring, learning opportunities, and professional development. This is an excellent opportunity for early career engineers, graduate level candidates, or those progressing towards Chartership, as well as experienced professionals looking to make a difference in the energy sector.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and mechanical standards, providing technical guidance where needed.
  • Deliver and support mechanical engineering projects across operations, maintenance, outages, and improvements.
  • Drive asset optimisation, reliability strategies, and performance/risk-based decision-making.
  • Conduct process analysis to identify efficiency, safety, and risk improvements.
  • Manage contractors and support planned and reactive maintenance to minimise downtime.

What are the requirements?

  • Strong mechanical engineering experience across a range of equipment and systems (pressure/steam systems desirable).
  • Proven problem-solving skills within energy, process, power, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, compliance standards, and safety systems (e.g. LOLER, PSSR, environmental regulations, permit to work).
  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience delivering or supporting engineering and improvement projects, with data analysis/reporting skills desirable.
  • Willingness to travel and support multiple sites as required.
