As Shop Manager at Sue Ryder, you will use your retail experience to drive business, push sales, and achieve targets while leading a volunteer team and maintaining high standards of customer service and merchandising.

Responsibilities

  • Drive business growth, push sales and achieve targets.
  • Lead your team to deliver great customer service to donors and customers.
  • Work with the local community to generate sufficient donated stock for sales.
  • Recruit, train and retain a volunteer team, providing leadership and guidance.
  • Set high standards of merchandising and housekeeping, prioritising health and safety.
  • Manage effective stock processes and ensure the shop is well merchandised with fresh, seasonal stock.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Sue Ryder, supporting in-store campaigns to promote the brand and national fundraising initiatives.
  • Operate the EPOS system and manage effective stock processes.

Qualifications

  • Customer service experience.
  • People-management experience (reviews, 1:1s, volunteer recruitment and team meetings).
  • Experience achieving KPI and target performance.
  • Strong IT skills (administration, email, instant messaging, video calls).
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Lone-working experience.
  • Enjoy engaging with people, a positive can-do attitude, and good financial and IT administration skills.
  • Proven team leadership skills and ability to lead a large team of volunteers.
  • Commercial awareness to deliver sales and meet deadlines, combined with the ability to plan and prioritise.

Desirable Criteria

  • High street retail or charity retail managerial experience.
  • Health and safety knowledge.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (or equivalent).
  • Background in high street retail, leisure, or hospitality.
  • Experience in merchandising / stock rotation.

Working Hours & Conditions

In retail most work is every weekend and managers mainly work only 1 in 2. We do not expect teams to work past 5:15pm in most shops. The earliest start time is 8:45am. We have Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day off.
