About us Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease. The expert team on our inpatient unit combine specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms, with emotional, practical and spiritual support. Our wellbeing and community support team are here to listen too Our Hospice at Home service is available seven days a week and provides care to patients with a life limiting illness who wish to be cared for at home at the end of their life About the role This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health care assistant who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first. This role is based within our friendly and supportive community team and involves visiting people in their own homes to provide support to people when they need it most. The successful applicants will play an active role within our multidisciplinary team including. Specialty Doctors, therapy staff, volunteers, nurses and other vital members of the MDT. Working with our patients and their families in the community requires a holistic approach to ensure the best possible outcomes. Whether in the last months, weeks, or days of life, or living with grief, we help people live the best life they possibly can. • Promote choice in the delivery of care and support. • Review and make suggestions to enhance the service users experience. • Participate in care planning. • Observe service users\’ conditions and report changes. • Supporting service users to have their views and experiences considered in the way the service is provided and delivered. About you In palliative care no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity because we care for patients with such a variety of conditions and symptoms. If you\’d like to develop your knowledge of many different conditions and the impact this has on patients and their families a role in palliative care with Sue Ryder is for you. We want to hear from dedicated healthcare assistants with sound clinical skills who are keen to make a real difference by providing high quality care and support to our service users at a time when they need it most. Our ideal candidate will be empathetic and have a real drive to improve the lives of those living with life limiting conditions. They will have a minimum of 1 years\’ experience of working in a UK based health or social care role and have a clear understanding of palliative, end of life and community care. As this role is community based, it is important that applicants have a full UK drivers\’ licence and access to a car. You will also need: • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent • UK driving license and access to a vehicle is essential. • Proven relevant care work experience. • Proven experience of working within a team • Effective communication skills • Numeracy and literacy skills • IT skills including accessing and using the internet, email and word. Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided. There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
