Interim Deputy Director of Finance β Hybrid / Colchester (2 days Colchester per week) β Β£80,000 β Fixed Term 12-month contract β 37.5 hours per week
There when it matters. Sue Ryder has an exciting opportunity as we seek to appoint an Interim Deputy Director of Finance to join our amazing Finance Directorate. This integral role will lead and develop the transactional and operational finance team in delivering a high-quality service to all stakeholders, providing financial insight and focusing on improving the financial performance and sustainability of the Charity. Deputising for the Chief Finance Officer, where required, you will drive the continuous improvement of finance systems and processes and developing and strengthening stakeholder relationships; the role will assist in improving and developing financial awareness across the charity to achieve financial sustainability.
About the role
- Evaluate investment appraisals and business cases to ensure maximum benefit is being generated for the Charity
- Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the transactional finance and reporting functions
- Coordination, planning and support of the charityβs external audit.
- Ensure that our accounting practices are in line with SORP
- Coordination, planning and support the preparation of PCI attestations in conjunction with members of IT, Retail and Fundraising.
- Working with external consultants to ensure compliance
- Cashflow forecasting and working capital management
- Systems and process improvements
- Provide strong leadership for the finance function promoting finance as a value adding support service to the rest of the organisation and delivering through our people a customer focussed experience
- Work with the Head of FP&A to ensure that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled regularly
- Ensure development of direct reports through regular 1-2-1βs and annual performance and development reviews
- Agree and implement all Internal and External Audit recommendations as pertaining to Finance
- Production of monthly financial reports for Board in the absence of the Chief Finance Officer
- Treasury Management and cashflow forecasting
About you
- VAT and Gift Aid knowledge
- Previous business transformation and systems implementation experience
- Experience of working with senior business leaders to improve performance
- Strong commercial acumen, a good understanding of the Charity sector being desirable
- Experience of communicating accounting concepts & implications to non-accounting professionals
- Ability to deliver high quality solutions with multiple deadlines within a pressurised environment
- Knowledge of utilising key management information & systems to drive improved performance & develop financial strategies
- Experience of distilling financial analysis into concise, insightful, impactful written & verbal communications
- Commercial experience
- Proven experience of presenting and influencing skills at all levels up to executive & board level
- Proven experience of inspiring, motivating, coaching, mentoring & managing staff to build high performing teams
- Confident with strong influencing and interpersonal skills and proven ability to motivate and encourage positive change
- Advanced Excel & business modelling skills
- Able to prioritise & meet tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail, coupled with ability to take high level view of commercial implications
- Exceptional relationship builder, passionate about making a meaningful difference & adding business value
Minimum Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification
- CCAB recognized accounting qualification or overseas equivalent
- Post qualification experience in a comparable role
- Proven experienced in managing and developing a team
- Knowledge of Companies Act and the Charities SORP
- Willingness to work in Colchester 2 days per week (usually Monday and Tuesday) ad hoc travel to London
