Sue Ross Recruitment are working with a highly regarded and well-established South Yorkshire law firm to recruit a Medical Negligence Solicitor to join their busy and expanding Civil Litigation department. This opportunity would suit a newly qualified solicitor up to 4 years’ post-qualification experience, or a CILEx Fellow with Litigation Practice Rights, who has experience handling or assisting with clinical negligence matters. The successful candidate will work across the firm’s Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley offices as part of a hardworking and respected medical negligence team.

You will provide high-quality legal advice and representation to clients across a broad range of medical negligence matters, including but not limited to hospital negligence, birth injuries, delayed diagnosis, incorrect prescription and complex personal injury claims. The firm has a strong reputation for inquest work and is recognised locally for offering both pre-inquest support and representation at Coroners’ hearings. The department also undertakes legally aided medical negligence work, providing an excellent opportunity to develop experience in this specialist area.

As a Medical Negligence Solicitor, your duties will include:

  • Caseload Management – Managing a varied caseload of complex and high-value medical negligence and civil litigation claims.
  • Client Advice & Care – Providing expert legal advice tailored to each client’s individual circumstances, delivering high standards of client care and an exceptional client experience.
  • Team Working – Working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes for clients.
  • Commercial Awareness – Meeting the commercial requirements of the firm through effective case management, efficiency and successful case outcomes.
  • Department Growth & Support – Contributing to the continued growth of the department and, where appropriate, supervising and mentoring junior team members to support professional development and enhance the client journey.

You will ideally have:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor (0–4 PQE) or CILEx Fellow with Litigation Practice Rights
  • Proven experience handling or assisting with clinical/medical negligence claims
  • Inquest experience, or a strong interest in developing this area of work
  • Excellent communication skills with a compassionate and client-focused approach
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage complex cases effectively
