Sue Ross Recruitment are working with a well-established and highly regarded law firm to recruit a Criminal Defence Paralegal to join their busy criminal defence team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with practical criminal defence experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will play a key role in supporting Criminal Defence solicitors, while also managing your own caseload and assisting clients through every stage of the criminal justice process.

As a Criminal Defence Paralegal, your responsibilities will include:

  • Case Management – Managing your own caseload across the full range of criminal defence matters.
  • Police Station Work – Representing clients at the police station and providing clear, practical advice at critical stages of proceedings. Alternatively, a willingness to undertake police station accreditation will be considered.
  • Legal Research – Conducting detailed legal research to support case strategy, ensuring knowledge is up to date with relevant case law, legislation and criminal procedure.
  • Drafting & Documentation – Preparing and drafting legal documents with accuracy, clarity and attention to detail.
  • Client Care – Building strong relationships with clients, providing clear and tailored guidance, keeping clients informed throughout their case, and meeting clients to take instructions, statements and assist with mitigation.
  • Communication & Liaison – Working closely with colleagues, external agencies and clients to ensure matters progress efficiently and to a high standard.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working within criminal defence law
  • Experience representing clients at the police station
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • A professional, empathetic and resilient attitude when dealing with sensitive and challenging situations
