Working throughout the UK and internationally, we deliver high-quality solutions for data centres, telecommunications, healthcare, education and other mission-critical facilities where reliability and resilience are essential. Due to continued growth within our Critical Infrastructure division, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Pipefitter to join our delivery team, supporting the installation of mechanical building services systems within data centre and critical infrastructure projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work on some of the UK's most technically challenging and high-profile data centre projects while developing your career within a growing and successful organisation. Role Purpose The Mechanical Pipefitter will be responsible for the installation, modification, testing and commissioning support of mechanical pipework systems associated with data centre cooling and critical infrastructure environments. The successful candidate will work closely with Site Managers, Project Managers, Design Engineers and commissioning teams to deliver high-quality mechanical installations safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Installation of chilled water, condenser water, heating and low-temperature hot water pipework systems. Installation and modification of carbon steel, stainless steel, copper and plastic pipework systems. Installation of pipe supports, brackets, frameworks and containment systems. Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, isometrics and installation specifications. Fabrication, threading, grooving, welding preparation and assembly of pipework systems. Installation of pumps, valves, strainers, expansion vessels, heat exchangers and associated mechanical equipment. Pressure testing, flushing and leak testing of systems. Assisting commissioning teams during system start-up and witnessing activities. Ensuring all installations comply with project specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements. Identifying and reporting installation challenges, technical issues and design discrepancies. Producing accurate site records, test documentation and progress updates. Working effectively alongside other mechanical, electrical and specialist subcontractors. Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment at all times. Supporting project delivery to ensure programme milestones and deadlines are achieved. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience as a Mechanical Pipefitter within commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, data centre or critical infrastructure environments. Strong understanding of mechanical building services installations. Experience installing chilled water and cooling pipework systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with screwed, grooved, welded and press-fit pipework systems. Good understanding of mechanical equipment installation. Knowledge of health and safety procedures and safe working practices. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Full UK driving licence. Desirable Skills & Experience Data centre or mission-critical environment experience. Experience working on hyperscale or colocation data centre projects. Welding qualifications or experience working alongside coded welders. Knowledge of HVAC and cooling systems. Experience supporting commissioning activities. IPAF certification. PASMA certification. CSCS Skilled Worker Card. SSSTS or Site Safety qualification. Knowledge of BIM and coordinated services installations. Qualifications NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Services (Pipefitting) or equivalent. CSCS Skilled Worker Card. Relevant Health & Safety certification. IPAF and PASMA certifications advantageous. Personal Attributes Strong work ethic and professional attitude. Reliable, punctual and safety-conscious. Flexible and willing to travel when required. Positive team player with excellent communication skills. Ability to work in fast-paced construction environments. Committed to continuous professional development and learning
