Overview of Role:
Reporting to the Process Manager this key role requires a high degree of accuracy, leading new project developments ensuring that packaging is delivered within cost, in accordance with critical path timelines and that all quality expectations are met in terms of packaging functionality and product performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Creation of supplier briefs to communicate retail development requirements, taking into consideration Production, Engineering, Planning and procurement.
  • Ensuring new packaging is tested and approved in accordance with BRC requirements.
  • Development of corrugated, thermoforms, film substrates and paper substrates that are fit for purpose and fit within operational capabilities.
  • Responsible for conducting all packaging trials across both sites working cross functionally with NPD, Production and Engineering.
  • To work closely with purchasing team ensuring that development of new and existing packaging is in-line with purchasing supplier strategy.
  • Facilitation of artwork by working closely with NPD, Technical, artwork studios and suppliers to ensure accurate execution of artwork within demanding timescales.
  • The writing, issuing and management of packaging specifications.
  • Collation and approval of packaging samples.
    Generate pallet plans, collate quotations against MOQ requirements and tooling costs in order to populate product costs.
  • Generation of cutter guides for labels and films.
  • Continually assess the packaging utilisation for the site.
  • Provide guidance and execute any packaging optimisation opportunities to drive down operating costs.
  • Provide training, support and assistance with problem solving to all packaging related issues.
  • To identify innovations and new technologies and communicate these opportunities to relevant individuals within Speedibake.
  • To develop and maintain links with suppliers so that current and future technical opportunities can be identified to ensure Speedibake is working to Best
  • Practice and using market leading technologies.
  • To ensure that all new packaging arriving to site conforms to required specification and accurate records are maintained.
  • Supports Technical with annual packaging submission reporting.

The Right Person

  • At least 1 year Packaging Technology experience.
    Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and able to use these skills to influence and champion change within new product development.
  • Ability to handle complexity, successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes and experience or knowledge of the machinery and processes used in frozen bakery food manufacture, especially in thermoform, film and paper packaging. Desirable:
  • Ideally educated to Degree or possess IOP packaging diploma.
  • Have worked with or have an understanding of CAPE PACK and/or Adobe Illustrator.
