Senior Legal Contracts Specialist in Westhill

We are seeking a Senior Legal Contracts Specialist to join our team at the East Campus office in Westhill, Aberdeenshire. This full‑time staff position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to complex offshore operations and strategic initiatives within our collaborative, forward‑thinking environment.

Role

• Supplier‑Chain Management (SCM), Contracts and Chartering within the Offshore Delivery function.
• Support the following internal service lines:
  • Offshore Resources – vessel fleet, equipment and crewing.
  • Offshore Operations – survey, inspection and data processing.
  • Pipeline Group.
  • Major capital expenditure & new‑build vessel projects.

Contracts & Commercial Support

• Draft, review, qualify and negotiate a wide range of contractual documents, including frame agreements, novation agreements, amendments, confidentiality and non‑disclosure agreements and letters of intent.
• Advise on non‑standard terms and conditions, bank guarantees, parent company guarantees and seagoing vessel VAT declarations / end user declarations.
• Provide guidance on warranty claims, loss / damage claims, and other complex contractual issues.
• Support long‑term strategic vessel charters (time charter or bareboat charter).
• Assist with renewal and establishment of frame agreements.

Project Oversight & Risk Management

• Oversee contractual and commercial aspects of major capital expenditure projects related to vessel mission equipment, upgrades and modifications.
• Manage complex vessel transactions, including sale, purchase, recycling, flag transfer and change of ownership.
• Coordinate HR, finance, tax, legal and compliance implications with relevant corporate functions.

Process Governance & Improvement

• Apply expert knowledge of contracting procedures to improve department processes, including deviation and approval processes.
• Identify process gaps and contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental tools, templates and workflows.

Training, Mentoring & Stakeholder Engagement

• Develop and deliver training materials on source‑to‑contract systems, contractual processes and best practices.
• Mentor and support the development of contractual expertise within the wider team.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships across internal stakeholders within the Offshore Delivery service lines and support functions.

Qualifications

• Extensive contractual expertise, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts.
• Degree in Law, Business Management or related discipline (postgraduate or professional legal certification highly desirable).
• Significant experience in a contracts or legal role within marine, subsea, offshore, energy or engineering sectors.
• Strong commercial acumen – understanding of risk, pricing models and business drivers.
