Our market ready platform, VICTA, is an optionally crewed / payload carrying dual-domain platform designed to operate at speed over range, capable of rapid transition beneath the surface to operate submerged, enabling the discreet delivery of effects within contested waters. It is a unique, innovative British platform focused primarily on the defence market but with utility beyond.

Position Overview: SubSea Craft's Research and Development department is crucial in delivering against the requirements of the Business Plan and achieving the company's strategic objectives. We are seeking a talented research engineer to drive foundational projects that underpin our technology roadmap, focusing on technologies at readiness levels 1-4.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable and support the technology development pipeline by:
  • Using research to contextualise opportunities and problem sets.
  • Identifying potential solutions and leveraging necessary partnerships and networks.
  • Using experimentation and engineering design to prove ideas and concepts.
  • Conduct operating environment and technology analysis through literature reviews, conference, and trade show attendance.
  • Design, conduct, analyse, and disseminate research to prove or disprove elements of the development roadmap.
  • Formulate technological concept solutions and proof-of-concept of fundamental technologies.
  • Support the wider engineering team in the early stages of the design process.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to evaluate commercial potential through market research.
  • Perform other duties as required by SubSea Craft management.
  • Security Requirements: Due to the nature of the work at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must meet the security requirements of the position, including at a minimum the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.

    Qualifications, Skills, And Experience:

    Essential:

    • Problem-solving skills with the ability to independently design, conduct, analyse, and communicate engineering research projects.
    • A good understanding of the fundamentals of data science.
    • Experience employing engineering design principles in a research context.

    Desirable:

    • Experience with MATLAB or Python for data analysis.
    • Experience with engineering simulation software.
    • Experience in commercially driven research and development projects.
    • Research experience in radio frequency engineering or composite materials/composite manufacture.

    Skill and Attributes:

    Essential:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to drive projects independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to communicate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    Desirable:

    • Project management and leadership experience.

    Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • Postgraduate research degree (e.g., MRes or PhD).
    • Engineering undergraduate degree.

    Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Clearance likely to be required for specific projects.
