Our market ready platform, VICTA, is an optionally crewed / payload carrying dual-domain platform designed to operate at speed over range, capable of rapid transition beneath the surface to operate submerged, enabling the discreet delivery of effects within contested waters. It is a unique, innovative British platform focused primarily on the defence market but with utility beyond.

We are looking for an energetic Composite Boat Builder to integrate into a close-knit team ready to drive forward the development of world leading advanced maritime technology. The successful contractor will be driven by innovation and strive to deliver excellence in everything they do.

Responsibilities Will Include

• Composite Fabrication
  • Fabricate composite components according to specifications using various techniques such as detailed hand layup, vacuum bagging, resin infusion, and resin transfer.
  • Competent use of hand tools and able to finish structures and components to a high standard.
  • Confident in the fitting of components and structural composites to given measurements and specifications.
  • Follow work instructions and project timelines diligently to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with all team members in a collaborative environment to achieve project goals.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks, share insights, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Report directly to the Lead Boat Builder, ensuring alignment with overall project objectives and team performance.
• Adherence to Standards
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship in all aspects of composite fabrication.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality control measures, and industry standards throughout the fabrication process.

  • Think innovatively to propose and implement improvements in fabrication techniques, processes, and tooling.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance efficiency, quality, and productivity in the workshop.

This Composite Boat Builder role requires a dedicated individual who can work effectively under pressure, follow instructions meticulously, and communicate clearly within a close-knit team environment. The ability to innovate, maintain high standards of workmanship, and take pride in one's work and workplace are essential for achieving outstanding results in composite fabrication projects.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

• Able to work with a deep understanding of composite construction methods including infusion, RTM and a high proficiency in hand lay-up of small components and secondary bonding.
• Experience of component finishing and finish coatings.
• Must be proficient in the use of hand tools and confident to fit composite structures and components to a high standard.
• Able to work from drawings and work instructions, complete documentation when required.

Desirable

• City & Guilds or HND qualification in Boat Building or Marine Engineering, or extended experience in composite yacht construction.

Working Conditions

The role will primarily be based in the SubSea Craft office in Portsmouth. The position may involve work in a manufacturing environment and at sea during trials, which may present physical challenges and require adherence to safety protocols.

Note: Due to the nature of work undertaken at SubSea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include as a minimum Existing right to live and work in the UK, Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.
