Based in Sittingbourne, Kent, we specialise in delivering exceptional retail stores, pharmacies, commercial kitchens, and custom display solutions from concept through to final installation. We are currently seeking a detail-driven and talented CAD Operator to join our growing team.
As a CAD Operator at Sublime Retail Display, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between initial client concepts and finished, manufactured products. You will be responsible for producing accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings, visualisations, and manufacturing documentation for a wide variety of commercial fit-out and retail projects. Working closely with clients, project managers, workshop joiners, and installation teams, you will ensure our projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Design & Visualisation: Develop concept sketches, detailed layouts, and technical drawings for commercial fit-out and refurbishment projects, including retail stores, pharmacies, kitchens, and bespoke shopfitting solutions.
- Software Proficiency: Produce high-quality 2D and 3D designs, realistic rendered visualisations, and professional client presentation materials using AutoKitchen and SketchUp.
- Site Surveys & Requirements: Conduct accurate site measurements and assess client briefs to create practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable design solutions.
- Client Collaboration & Business Support: Collaborate directly with clients to refine project specifications, present design proposals, negotiate requirements, and support business development to help secure new contracts.
- Manufacturing Documentation: Generate precise production drawings, material specifications, cutting lists, and comprehensive manufacturing documentation for workshop and installation teams.
- Workshop & CNC Liaison: Work closely with CNC machine operators, joiners, and carpentry teams to ensure designs are accurately translated into finished products while maintaining strict dimensional accuracy and quality.
- Production Support: Monitor manufacturing progress, resolve any design-related issues swiftly, and implement design modifications as required.
- Logistics & Delivery Coordination: Coordinate packaging, logistics, and delivery schedules to guarantee on-time project completion and handover.
- On-Site Installation: Work closely with installation and fitting teams on-site to oversee assembly, fitting, and final project completion in line with client expectations.
- Quality Control: Perform rigorous quality inspections across design, manufacturing, and installation stages to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams—including designers, production staff, suppliers, and project managers—to streamline workflow efficiency.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to ongoing company improvements by identifying ways to optimise design processes, manufacturing methods, and material utilisation.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CAD Operator, CAD Designer, or similar role within shopfitting, interior fit-outs, or manufacturing.
- Proficiency in AutoKitchen and SketchUp (or closely related industry-standard CAD software).
- Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes, joinery, materials, and production drawings (cutting lists, material specs).
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and negotiate project requirements.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail and quality control.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and meet tight deadlines.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as required (optional/adjust as needed).
