About the Role
This role is for you if you are an experienced engineering leader who thrives on bringing clarity and structure to complex, client‑facing delivery. You will own our Projects stream end‑to‑end — a growing function responsible for delivering regulatory engineering work directly to clients, operating across multiple concurrent engagements with varying scope and methodology.
You will lead a team of approximately 15 engineers organized into stable delivery pods, each anchored by a senior engineer and supported by junior engineers and graduates. This is a highly autonomous role at the intersection of people leadership, delivery management, and stakeholder engagement — with direct impact on client outcomes and the team's technical culture.
Responsibilities
- Own the Projects stream end to end — delivery oversight, team health, intake management, and capacity planning across all pods
- Act as the primary interface between the Projects stream and the Product Team
- Build and maintain a clear view of team capacity and project timelines, making this visible to stakeholders
- Sequence and allocate work across pods as projects complete and new ones begin, matching the right pod to the right engagement
People & Development
- Line manage senior engineers acting as pod leads, providing regular 1:1s, feedback, and support for their professional development
- Define and embed clear progression pathways within the Projects stream, supporting engineers at every level from graduate to senior
- Foster a strong team culture across pods, ensuring engineers feel connected to the wider Projects mission and not siloed within their individual project
- Work with the broader engineering leadership team across all streams on cross‑team initiatives, resourcing, and team‑wide improvements
Delivery & Process
- Establish and maintain a lightweight intake process for new project requests
- Adapt delivery methodologies to the nature of each project
- Identify and address delivery risks early, escalating where appropriate and removing blockers for pod leads
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and other stream leads on resourcing, hiring, and team strategy
Qualifications
- Proven experience leading and managing teams of senior software engineers, with a track record of growing and developing engineering talent
- Strong stakeholder management skills — comfortable challenging scope, managing expectations, and representing engineering interests with product, commercial, and client‑facing teams
- Experience managing concurrent delivery across multiple workstreams or projects simultaneously
- Technical credibility — enough engineering background to be respected by senior engineers, review technical decisions, and understand delivery risk
- Experience building or improving engineering processes in fast‑moving environments where structure has been lacking
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences
Desirable
- Experience in a client‑facing or professional services delivery environment
- Familiarity with regulatory technology, financial services, or data‑heavy engineering domains
- Experience with GitLab or similar tools for project and delivery tracking
- Background as a software engineer, ideally with Python experience
- Familiarity with a range of delivery methodologies — kanban, scrum, and ad hoc project structures
Benefits
- 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays (location dependent)
- Flexible holiday — choose when you take your holidays by opting out of bank holidays if you would like
- Additional tenure‑based annual leave — 1 additional day for each year after two years of service
- Flexible working hours
- Company Pension
- Maternity leave and extraordinary paternity leave
- Work from home budget/home setup: £500 for new starters
- £500 Annual Training / Development Subsidy
- Perkbox
