We are looking for a Research Executive to join STV’s Audience Insights team in Glasgow. If you’re curious, analytical, and keen to understand how Scottish audiences consume media, then this could be the job for you!
STV’s exciting vision is to become Scotland’s leading platform for audiences and advertisers and a global content powerhouse. On-air, STV reaches more than 70% of Scottish adults every month through its TV channel - the largest commercial channel in Scotland - and streaming service, STV Player, which is also available across the rest of the UK. STV has expanded its audience even further by introducing an audio division, with STV Radio - a major new Scotland-focused commercial radio station.
Based in STV’s Pacific Quay office in Glasgow, the Audience Insights team provide insights for a host of teams across the company, including Commercial, News, Marketing, STV Radio, STV Player, PR and our Studios division. As well as analysing viewing and listening trends, the team also work closely with ScotPulse – Scotland’s largest consumer panel – to create online surveys that gain a deeper understanding of what consumers think.
THE ROLE
Reporting to the Insights Manager, the Research Executive will provide the company with insights around STV’s audience across TV, online and radio. Responsibilities include:
- Analysing TV viewing figures using Barb data – looking at what people watch, what platforms they’re using, and how viewing differs across demographics.
- Interrogation of RAJAR data to support the performance and growth of STV Radio in relation to its competitors.
- Keeping up to date with the latest viewing and listening trends.
- Ensuring monthly reports are delivered on time and to a high standard.
- Supporting STV’s Commercial team – equipping them with the information they need to sell advertising campaigns across platforms (STV/ STV Player & Radio).
- Assist in demonstrating how viewers consume content across our broadcast and digital platforms.
- Providing viewing figures and performance tracking for STV Studios’ numerous productions.
- Working alongside ScotPulse to create online surveys, analyse results, and present findings.
- Assist in any other aspects of work of the company as reasonably required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Analytically minded with strong numerical skills, proficient in identifying trends, and carrying out calculations.
- Attention to detail, the ability to work with accuracy and complete tasks to a high standard.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex information simply and confidently to stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret results and create insight driven reports.
- Commercially minded with a passion for media, research and advertising.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to create and deliver engaging presentations to stakeholders at all levels.
- Pro-active approach to learning new skills and identifying new ideas and solutions.
- Strong IT skills, with a strong grasp of Excel (including formatting, formulas, pivot tables and charts), alongside PowerPoint, Word and the wider Office 365 suite.
- Demonstrable work experience in a research related role, ideally with knowledge of market and audience research techniques is desirable.
- Experience using survey tools to design and deliver surveys with the ability to disseminate the findings is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Barb and/ or RAJAR is beneficial. Useful to have any working knowledge of business intelligence tools such as Tableau.
