On-air, STV reaches more than 70% of Scottish adults every month through its TV channel - the largest commercial channel in Scotland - and streaming service, STV Player, which is also available across the rest of the UK. STV has expanded its audience even further by introducing an audio division, with STV Radio - a major new Scotland-focused commercial radio station – which launched in Jan 2026.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Compliance Officer to join the STV Compliance team. Across STV, multiple business areas process personal data and produce content in accordance with UK legal and regulatory requirements. Compliance is therefore central to protecting viewer trust, maintaining regulatory standards, and supporting STV’s commercial success.

The Assistant Compliance Officer will provide essential support to the Compliance team which covers data protection compliance (collection, storage, use and deletion of personal data) which is regulated by the ICO, and broadcast compliance (editorial and/or commercial content broadcast/published on STV platforms, namely ODPS, TV, Radio, Digital (online) and social media) which is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Ofcom.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • General Duties
    • Record Maintenance: maintain compliance department records, including activity logs and compliance evidence/documentation (using Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
    • Guidance: Help maintain compliance guides, templates, and advisory notices
    • Research: carry out research into data protection and broadcast and compliance developments to support decision making
  • Data Protection Compliance Monitoring Support
    • Monitoring: Conduct supervised monitoring to assess compliance with company procedures, policies, and regulatory codes/standards
    • GDPR Records Maintenance: support the maintenance of mandatory documentation for the STV Group of Companies (including Records of Processing Activities)
    • Training: Assist with provision of data protection training materials across the business
    • Guides: Support the drafting and updating of data protection guidance and templates
    • Practical Application: work with operational departments to support good data protection practices
  • Broadcast Compliance Support
    • Monitoring: Liaise with editorial, production and commercial teams to gather documentary evidence and information necessary to conduct and assess compliance in response to referrals, enquiries, requests and/or complaints.
    • Content Compliance: Assist with the pre-clearance or provision of compliance advice on editorial, promotional, advertising material to be broadcast or published on STV Media Platforms: TV, Radio, Digital and on Social Media, including self-promotion, third party advertisements, party political broadcasts, and programmes.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrable knowledge and awareness of regulatory compliance, specifically compliance with UK data protection (UK GDPR, PECR) and advertising ((B)CAP) laws, regulations and codes of practice
  • Developed understanding of data protection and broadcast compliance governance function.
  • Proven track record of applying strong attention to detail and sound judgement to compliance related matters.
  • A research-to-action mindset, with the ability to conduct thorough analysis and translate findings into clear, practical recommendations that support decision-making.
  • Demonstrates discretion in the handling of sensitive personal data ensuring that information is handled appropriately.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks within short deadlines.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and team working skills to liaise effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Excellent IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Office and document management systems.
  • Previous experience working in a regulated environment is desirable.
  • A degree or qualification in law, media, business, data protection or a related discipline is desirable.
