An exciting opportunity has arisen for a News Camera Operator to join the STV News team based in Inverness.
The successful candidate will be a self‑starter with a proven ability to identify and collect the elements that we need to create content for our audiences across platforms.
Key responsibilities
You will be working in a busy and flexible news environment covering a wide range of stories.
We require our team members to work together to get the best content, to be creative and bold in their approach to filming, to have enthusiasm for content and to come up with original filming ideas and treatments.
Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in News ESC filming and operations.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of camera operations (including DSLR, mirrorless, broadcast cameras).
- Experience of using camera equipment such as drones, 360, Go Pro to capture content.
- Experience of working on live programmes alongside SNG vehicles and using remote inject points is desirable.
- Good understanding of single camera lighting techniques for filming.
- Sound knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, risks and control measures associated with field production.
- Knowledge and understanding of Avid Newsroom systems is desirable.
- Experience of laptop editing, store, and forward systems is desirable.
- Proficiency in editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Avid), with the ability to deliver fast turnaround edits to deadlines.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced live television and news environment.
- Excellent technical and operation skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to meeting the changing demands of news production, with a keen interest in emerging technologies and digital platforms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and with contributors.
