STV News is looking for an Assistant Producer to take a senior role in the digital video team. This position creates high-quality short and mid-form video content for distribution on social and digital platforms, with a strong focus on vertical formats and live streams of news events. As an editorial role, it requires both creative storytelling and technical skills to deliver fast, accurate, and engaging video that meets the needs of digital audiences and is produced to regulatory and newsroom standards. Working closely with reporters and the wider newsroom, the Assistant Producer will support our transition to a content-led newsroom and have an opportunity to help shape this essential change. This position is based on a flexible working pattern that includes occasional late shifts to accommodate the live news agenda.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produce and edit short and mid-form video content for digital platforms, with a focus on vertical formats for social distribution.
  • Manage live streams: set up, monitor, and conclude multiple weekly streams to defined standards.
  • Collaborate with newsroom colleagues to ensure timely delivery of content throughout the daily publishing window. Speed, accuracy, and consistent quality are essential.
  • Provide guidance and support to reporters on developing effective social video angles and presenting their work effectively on digital platforms.
  • Support the daily planning, production and distribution of live video output to agreed standards and schedules.
  • Actively engage with editorial meetings and planning processes as required to optimise digital video resources and output.
  • Ensure all content, including short and mid-form video, complies with our regulatory obligations, legal requirements and STV News values.
  • Adhere to quality control processes and contribute to rolling initiatives to maintain and improve the standards for our output.
  • Deliver project work, including onboarding new platforms, building training programmes, and creating templates for editorial initiatives.
  • Interpret and communicate usage data to inform content priorities and improve audience engagement.
  • Assist in any other aspects of work of the company as reasonably required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable experience in a senior content role.
  • Strong storytelling skills and ability to produce compelling content for audiences on digital platforms.
  • A detailed understanding of digital video, including short and mid-form formats, and digital distribution platforms such as YouTube.
  • Effective organisational skills and a commitment to developing knowledge and confidence in STV News' editorial workflows and processes.
  • Confidence in interpreting and communicating usage data to inform content priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills to support reporters to make effective use of digital formats and distribution channels.
  • Judgment, knowledge and confidence in managing the legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • High degree of competency with edit tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with managing live streams on digital platforms.
