STV is Scotland’s leading digital media brand. Each month, our commercial broadcast channel reaches 3.5 million viewers and the STV Player is the fastest growing Video on Demand service in the UK. This role is a unique opportunity to work on a multi-platform product that reaches a huge national audience across Scotland.
STV are on a mission to become Scotland’s digital entertainment hub. The world of media streaming is fast-paced and constantly changing and STV is determined to lead the way with our new digital strategy. Our product and engineering teams are working to transform our video streaming service, STV Player, into a world class platform. Our challenge is to blend leading-edge technology with intuitive user interfaces and engaging user experiences.
About the Role
STV is looking for an AdTech Support Engineer to operate, troubleshoot and evolve the advertising technology that powers STV Player across live, simulcast and on‑demand streaming.
You’ll take operational ownership of the advertising workflows that sit behind every ad break — ad serving, dynamic ad insertion, metadata, creative delivery and monitoring — making sure they run reliably and protect impression delivery and ad revenue. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Product, Ad Operations and Insights, as well as our technology partners, to keep advertising delivery measurable, resilient and high‑performing.
This role is part of the Engineering team within our Audience – Video & Technology division and is a hands‑on technical role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems across interconnected systems and wants to help shape the future of advertising technology at STV.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Own and evolve advertising workflows across VOD, simulcast and live streaming, including SSAI, CSAI, Simulcast and Linear Dynamic Ad Insertion.
- Configure, maintain and validate integrations with FreeWheel and other advertising platforms, keeping them healthy and efficient.
- Troubleshoot advertising delivery and playback issues across the streaming ecosystem.
- Support ad break signalling, request templates, event tracking and measurement.
- Develop and maintain metadata integrations supporting advertising and audience workflows.
- Support creative ingestion, transcoding, rendition and delivery workflows.
- Improve the reliability, resilience and observability of AdTech services, maintaining dashboards, alerts and monitoring to identify anomalies before they become incidents.
- Work with engineering teams and technology partners to design and deliver new advertising capabilities.
- Act as a technical specialist for AdTech across STV, sharing knowledge and contributing to technical standards and documentation.
About You
The successful candidate will have experience working with complex technical platforms and integrations, ideally within AdTech, streaming, broadcast or digital media. You’ll be comfortable investigating problems across multiple systems and working with both technical and non-technical teams to get them resolved.

- Experience in AdTech, streaming, media technology or digital video. Familiarity and experience with Ad Decisioning Servers such as Freewheel or Google Ad Manager, and a solid understanding of digital advertising standards, VAST and VMAP.
- Understanding of digital video and streaming workflows, and how they integrate with ad servers and ad insertion technologies.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. This role will be supporting production systems, monitoring their health and helping respond to and resolve incidents within our ad platform.
- Experience working with, and integrating to, third party systems. This role requires you to work with and understand APIs, integrations and third‑party technology platforms, and how they work with our systems.
- Demonstrable experience with FreeWheel, Yospace, Brightcove or similar AdTech/video platforms.
- A solid understanding of video ad service techniques, including SSAI, CSAI and SGAI.
- Experience working with live and VOD video workflows and formats including HLS and DASH.
- Exposure to broadcast and playout technologies including SCTE-35 ad markers, and broadcast‑to‑streaming encoding and packaging workflows.
