STV is Scotland’s leading digital media brand. Each month, our commercial broadcast channel reaches 3.5 million viewers and the STV Player is the fastest growing Video on Demand service in the UK. About the team

The Content & Workflows team owns several key services that power the STV Player, including:

  • our Content Catalogue APIs,
  • media acquisition and transcoding workflows
  • metadata distribution to the STV Player and various 3rd party partners, including Sky, Samsung and others.

It sits at the heart of ensuring our content is available and discoverable to our audience. The Content & Workflows team sits within our wider Engineering team and is part of our Digital division.

About the role

As the Engineering Manager for the Content & Workflows team, you will play a key role leading the activities of the engineers within the team and working with Product Management to define the vision and plan for the team. You will be part of the Engineering Leadership Team and will work with other engineering managers to ensure successful delivery of cross-team initiatives. Your responsibilities will cover four key areas:

  • People: You will line manage and coach the Software Engineers in your team, fostering a productive and collaborative environment.
  • Technical Leadership: You will own the technical roadmap and engineering strategy for the team, and define the engineering standards expected of the team. You will also contribute to the overall STV Digital engineering strategy.
  • Delivery and Execution: Working closely with Product and Delivery Management you will define ambitious yet achievable plans and be accountable for the timely execution and delivery of those plans. You will continuously support efficiency improvements.
  • Operational Excellence: You will define and embody the software development standards expected of the engineering team. You will encourage a high level of engineering and operational excellence, with a focus on reliability and resilience.

  • Contributions to the STV Digital performance indicators, as defined and agreed with the PM and the rest of the team

About you

  • Leadership Experience: 2+ years leading engineering teams, with exposure to both leadership and technical leadership.
  • Technical Expertise: Expertise in identifying, defining and championing the appropriate software architecture in alignment with company vision.
  • Hands on Approach: Provide technical knowledge, mentorship and leadership to the team to continually improve and drive technical and delivery performance within the team.
  • Influence: An ability to partner with peers and other teams in order to drive projects and initiatives forward.
  • Product Thinking: A deep understanding of the product we’re building and strong opinions about the direction of the product. You will be able to have meaningful conversations with your counterparts in Product Management regarding plans and compromises.
  • Impact-focused: understand KPIs and the team’s ability to influence them, thriving in delivery of end-user and business added-value.
