Overview

STV is Scotland’s leading digital media brand. The STV Player is the digital video service offering STV catch-up to Scotland and a wide range of content to the rest of the UK. This role is a position within the STV Player Content Team in Glasgow. The Media Manager role is essential to the smooth operation of STV Player by ensuring the timely and accurate publishing of an ever-increasing array of content across multiple platforms. The work pattern is 2 days per week with flexibility to work additional shifts including weekends and evenings where operationally required.

As a member of STV, you will help transform our video streaming service into a world-class platform by blending leading-edge technology with intuitive user interfaces and engaging user experiences.

Role

STV Player is the digital video service offering STV catch-up to Scotland and a wide range of content to the rest of the UK. It houses some of the UK’s biggest TV brands, including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Britain’s Got Talent and I’m A Celebrity. The Media Manager role in Glasgow ensures timely and accurate publishing of content across an expanding number of platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Source assets for publication, for example from syndication feeds, in-house systems and STV’s Library.
  • Digitise and edit content as required for publication.
  • Using STV’s in-house Content Management System and various other tools: oversee publication of VOD and short form content to STV Player across all platforms.
  • Create, check and update written descriptions and thumbnails for each asset.
  • Apply rights requirements, such as expiry dates, guidance and compliance warnings and geo-blocking.
  • Contribute to the STV Player editorial strategy, for example by updating homepage content, category lists, content collections, etc., and by working closely with the Digital and other teams.
  • Act as a “first customer” to approve audio/video quality, check presence of advertising, sponsorship and subtitles, and sign-off publication of each asset.
  • In the event of technical failure, troubleshoot and implement escalation and backup procedures to minimise impact on the customer experience.
  • Assist in any other aspects of the work of the company as reasonably required.

Qualifications and skills

  • Experience of working with video, ideally within a streaming platform.
  • Experience of publishing and verifying content using a Content Management System is essential.
  • Absolute attention to detail and first-rate, accurate writing skills, including proof-reading and/or sub-editing experience.
  • Image editing skills using Photoshop and video editing are essential.
  • Self-starter, confident in debugging issues and working closely with wider technology teams when required.
  • An understanding of online video services, whether run by STV or equivalent suppliers, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and keen interest in, learning more about STV’s output.
