Do you want to be part of Scotland’s brand-new radio station? STV’s exciting vision is to become Scotland’s leading platform for audiences and advertisers and a global content powerhouse. On-air, STV reaches more than two in three Scottish adults every month through its TV channel and streaming service, STV Player. It will soon expand its audience even further by launching an audio division and a major new Scotland-focused commercial radio station.

From bases across the UK, STV’s content production arm, STV Studios, creates world-class entertainment for UK and international networks and streamers, including Apple TV+ drama Criminal Record, global phenomenon LEGO Masters, and reality juggernaut The Fortune Hotel.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Deputy Programme Director to join our team during the launch of an exciting new commercial radio station, presented and produced from Scotland for Scottish Audiences.

This role will support the Programme Director in leading the station’s content strategy, ensuring high-quality, engaging, and compliant output across all platforms. The Deputy Programme Director will play a key role in coaching talent, driving audience growth, and integrating commercial and promotional content effectively.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and coach on air talent through weekly aircheck sessions to deliver excellent content.
  • Monitor station output to ensure editorial excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the Programme Director to grow the audience, implementing agreed strategic programming initiatives and digital targeting elements, with a concentration on monetising both audience and revenue opportunities.
  • Work with presenters to prep content for shows, support the delivery of on-air content, and produce programmes as required (be the PD in the studio).
  • Schedule weekly one-to-one meetings with breakfast show Producer to discuss and agree monthly/90 day forward planning and maintain programming promotional calendar.
  • Work closely with STV Commercial to optimize airtime, brand and/or sponsorship integration and maximise all available incoming budgets. 
  • Attend and contribute to sponsorship & promotions meetings and respond to sponsorship briefs.
  • Oversee Outside Broadcasts and attend station events.
  • Use the Style Guide to monitor/track and benchmark the performance of your on-air team.
  • Track competitor activity and market trends to inform programming decisions.
  • Oversee compiling of radio awards through archiving and collating of content pieces both live and recorded across the year.
  • Assist with writing imaging and any promotional promo on-air content for on-air or on-line and digital.
  • Attend and contribute to all meetings regarding STV Radio’s social and digital strategy.
  • Provide weekly update reports on progress in delivering KPIs (RAJAR/audience engagement etc).

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial radio production, ideally with a breakfast / flagship show.
  • Strong editorial judgement and knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks (Ofcom).
  • Confident organisational skills and a detailed understanding of editorial planning.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative approach to content development
  • Proven track record of coaching and supporting on air talent, including experience of aircheck feedback.
  • Proficient in music scheduling and playout systems (e.g GSelector).
  • High attention to detail in monitoring and maintaining content quality and compliance.
  • Experience in audience growth strategies and ability to create engaging, audience- focused programming.
  • Experience working with commercial teams regarding sponsorship and promotions.
  • Understanding of digital platforms and social media strategies.
  • Experience with audience analytics and feedback tools.
