Do you want to be part of Scotland’s brand-new radio station? STV’s exciting vision is to become Scotland’s leading platform for audiences and advertisers and a global content powerhouse. On-air, STV reaches more than two in three Scottish adults every month through its TV channel and streaming service, STV Player. It will soon expand its audience even further by launching an audio division and a major new Scotland-focused commercial radio station.
From bases across the UK, STV’s content production arm, STV Studios, creates world-class entertainment for UK and international networks and streamers, including Apple TV+ drama Criminal Record, global phenomenon LEGO Masters, and reality juggernaut The Fortune Hotel.
THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for a Producer to join our commercial radio team to develop and oversee the brand new STV Breakfast Show, presented and produced from Scotland for Scottish Audiences.
This role will work in partnership with the Programme Director to produce and manage the Breakfast Show, ensuring it delivers compelling, engaging, brand focused content in order to drive audience growth and commercial success.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, structure, and produce daily content, ensuring it aligns with the STV brand strategy and audience.
- Work closely with on-air presenters to develop creative ideas, features, and talking points aligned to content strategy.
- Lead daily editorial meetings and manage forward planning for show content.
- Monitor live output and provide real-time support and direction during broadcasts ensuring the show remains on target and on time in every link.
- Liaise with the team before the show to get the right ‘hot’/current topics for our target audience and then brief the team on how to integrate this material into the day’s show.
- Liaise with commercial teams to integrate sponsorships, promotions, and branded content seamlessly to achieve station revenue goals.
- Work in partnership with the Programme Director to develop relationships with key local stakeholders and organisations.
- Build a key contact database, book guests, manage contributor logistics, and oversee the planning and preparations for pre-recorded and live segments.
- Ensure all content complies with broadcasting regulations and style guide.
- Oversee social media and online presence to extend show reach and engagement.
- Co-ordinate the production of highlight reels.
- Assist in the execution of the marketing strategy for the Breakfast Show and ongoing promotions.
- Manage the breakfast show live liners/ promos process to ensure delivery on air.
- Track audience feedback and RAJAR performance to inform content decisions.
- Maintain a strong understanding of competitor activity and market trends.
- Archive standout content for awards submissions and promotional use.
- Support Outside Broadcasts and live events related to the breakfast show.
- Provide regular performance updates to the Programme Director.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience within commercial radio production, ideally with a breakfast / flagship show.
- Strong editorial judgement, creativity and knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks (Ofcom).
- Experience in audience growth strategies and proven track record of producing engaging, high impact radio content.
- Experience of integrating commercial and promotional activities into editorial output.
- Confident organisational skills and a detailed understanding of editorial planning.
- Effective communicator with a collaborative approach to leading teams and content development
- Proven track record of coaching and supporting on air talent.
- Proficient in music scheduling and playout systems (e.g GSelector).
- High attention to detail in monitoring and maintaining content quality and compliance.
- Experience working with commercial teams regarding sponsorship and promotions.
- Strong understanding of digital platforms and social media strategies.
- Confidence in managing live broadcast and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Understanding of RAJAR metrics and audience engagement strategies.
