Salary: up to £39,605.59 per annum
The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at both International Foundation Year (Pre‑Undergraduate or Level 3 Equivalent) and Graduate Diploma (Pre‑Masters) level. Teaching sessions will be face‑to‑face. The Law modules at the centre include the English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law, and Extended Project at International Foundation Level, and Legal Institutions Skills and Methods, Contemporary Issues in Law, Fundamentals of Contract Law, and Extended Research at Graduate Diploma Level. You will join a team of Law tutors to deliver some of the above modules.
About the role
- Delivering modules (face‑to‑face and occasionally online) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the continued development of modules.
- Developing modules from module specifications, including schemes of learning and appropriate development of learning resources.
- Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE) and facilitating student access to it.
- Providing input for related modules to an annual review and reporting process.
- Maintaining an accurate and up‑to‑date record of student attendance and performance.
- Providing academic learning support to a small number of students when/if required.
- Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
- Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
- Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
- Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to the subject.
About you
- A recognised teacher status qualification (desirable) and/or A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
- Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
- Teaching experience delivering Law/Social Science programmes within a UK FE/Sixth form or higher education setting (essential)
- Experience of working with international students both online and face‑to‑face (desirable)
- Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e‑mail, etc.)
- Confident practitioner online and face‑to‑face
- Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
- A student‑centred approach
- Strong record‑keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility
- Ability to work under pressure to deadlines
