The Head of Curriculum and Progression will provide the leadership and vision to deliver excellent student success through the development of teaching, learning and assessment, curriculum innovation and academic quality. The role will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of academic staff including English. You will work closely with colleagues within and outside the ISC and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the Centre's continuous improvement process to support the strategy and priorities for the ISC.
  • Work with the Centre Director in the development of programmes and student outcomes to meet the overall strategic aims of the Centre.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing performance of direct reports; and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Contribute to planning and policy development in areas including human resources; academic development; learning, teaching and assessment; and academic quality assurance and enhancement.
  • Provide effective and efficient academic leadership, management and co-ordination of staff resources across the academic, working closely with the Centre Director and the management team.
  • Provide academic leadership to programme teams, taking overall responsibility for academic standards, the quality of learning opportunities, and the accuracy and completeness of published information, ensuring that these are managed appropriately and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Centre.
  • Contribute and support the quality process to ensure that the Centre is fully compliant with Study Group, UoA and relevant external agencies' quality frameworks, policies, procedures and codes of practice.
  • Monitor progress against actions in the Centre Action Plan and report on these to the Centre Director and various governance committees.
  • Ensure that the Centre's Quality Assurance framework is implemented across all academic teams and lead on the development of the Centre's Annual Monitoring Report.
  • As part of the Centre management team, contribute towards effective day to day management of the ISC including inducting staff, implementing health and safety policies, arranging cover for absent staff, attending meetings as appropriate, and inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Work with the Student Experience Team to ensure timetables and assessment are scheduled effectively and to deadlines.
  • Work closely with academic staff and the AES coordinator to ensure that appropriate, current and relevant subject, academic skills and language developments are integrated and embedded in programmes and aligned with partnership articulation aspirations.
  • To support the UKVI attendance process by ensuring the regular completion of weekly registers and check with staff to ensure students are attending, completing work set, preparing and attending all tests, mid-term assessments and module exams, recording all issues and taking action with problems, to include in reports for the academic committees.
  • Report any attendance concerns to the member of staff who is responsible for student attendance and escalate any areas of students concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DLS), when required.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor's degree and a postgraduate qualification.
  • Further management or leadership qualifications or a willingness to undertake such.
  • Experience of providing leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with recent evidence of significant success in bringing individuals together and forming a strong team ethos.
  • Ability to delegate activities, set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging targets.
  • Experience of planning and delivering change or continuous improvement in teaching & learning which achieved a positive impact on student outcomes.
  • Experience of working with international students and an understanding and knowledge of welfare, well-being and cultural issues which may arise.
  • Experience of data management and interpretation, and quality assurance.
  • Experience of HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process.
  • Experience of successfully leading on internal communications, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations.
  • A sound understanding of UK Higher Education and experience of managing support activity and staff in an international and/or UK Further and/or Higher Education context.
  • Strong leadership, project management and organisational skills.
  • A proven track record in leading, developing or delivering teaching & learning initiatives with strong student outcomes focus.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure to deadlines.
  • Sound IT skills including MS Office and MS Excel and experience of working with databases.
  • A working knowledge of international admissions and recruitment activity in UK Higher Education.
