Studio ZNA is a creative lighting design practice based at Somerset House, London. We offer a specialist understanding of light, space and form, with an extensive portfolio across world-leading museums and galleries, high-end retail and commercial projects in the UK and internationally.
We are seeking a Mid/Senior Lighting Designer to project lead across multiple projects. This is a full-time, primarily studio-based role, with some flexibility available. We are looking for a passionate and highly motivated designer with 4–5 years’ experience in a similar role within an independent lighting consultancy, who can contribute both creatively and technically to the high standards of the studio and our clients.
Recent projects include the lighting design and commissioning for Schiaparelli: Fashion Meets Art at the V&A, the new V&A East Museum - permanent galleries and public realm, The Courtauld Gallery refurbishment, and the new Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Denmark.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple lighting design projects from concept through to completion
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, clients and suppliers
- Produce design presentations, sketches, technical drawings and specifications
- Attend site visits, mock-ups, focusing and commissioning
- Mentor and support junior team members where appropriate
- Present concepts and schematics to client teams with confidence
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 4–5 years’ experience within an independent lighting consultancy
- Strong lighting design portfolio demonstrating creative and technical ability
- Excellent written and spoken English
- London-based or within commuting distance
- Excellent inAutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
- Good knowledge of lighting controls including DMX, DALI and Casambi
- Strong understanding of LED lighting technologies
- Experience with mock-ups, product testing and on-site commissioning
- Excellent knowledge of lighting calculation software such as Dialux or Relux
- Additional experience with 2D/3D and visualisation software (Rhino/Revit/etc.) a plus. 3D modelling skills required working with architectural models.
- Knowledge of British Standards and lighting guidelines
- Architectural background strongly preferred
- Interest and experience in museum and gallery environments highly desirable
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced studio environment, both independently and collaboratively
