Position Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Coach/Administrative Coordinator & Recruiter supports the Head Coach for their assigned sport(s). In that support role, the Assistant Coach/Administrative Coordinator & Recruiting Coordinator is responsible for performance analysis and skill development as well as performing administrative duties and coordinating program recruiting efforts. This position will also help to operate a program for student-athletes, with differing abilities and skills, and serve as a role model in meeting our complimentary goals in Athletics of “Pursuing Athletic Excellence…Developing Christian Character.” This position also supports the AROMA staff as the Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Education Required

BS/BA in appropriate field

Education Preferred

CSCS Certified

Experience Required

1 year coaching experience, preferably in collegiate athletics, and college playing

experience.

Experience Preferred

Some experience with athletics recruiting and administration preferred

Skills, Characteristics Required For Position

ꞏ Ability to coach, teach and train student-athletes in skills and strategies specific to their sport;

ꞏ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education;

ꞏ Ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes;

ꞏ Ability to be a supportive team player within the Athletics Department and Messiah University;

ꞏ Ability to communicate effectively;

ꞏ A working knowledge of computer programs and systems; and

ꞏ Demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., attend conferences, clinics, workshops)

ꞏ Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sports ministry and strength and conditioning to serve the Aroma staff

Duties

Essential Employee N/A Primary Duties

  • Analyze performance and instruct athletes in skills, techniques and strategies in preparation for competition and during contests.
  • Coordinate, write and implement Strength and Conditioning programming for all Messiah Athletics teams.
  • Assist the head coach, as directed, in the coordination of general administrative duties (including budgeting, game scheduling, travel plans, meeting requests for information, hiring of officials, and business procedures).
  • Communicate with the athletic trainer, athletics communication director, facilities assignor, and department administrators as directed by the head coach.
  • In coordination with the head coach, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate recruiting and scouting activities. Plan and execute all on campus recruiting activities.
  • Assist, as directed by the head coach, the Associate Athletics Director for Operations in matters for which he/she is responsible including ordering and inventorying of equipment, and maintenance and use of facilities for contests and practices.
  • Adhere to and follow all rules and guidelines of Messiah University, Middle Atlantic Conference and the NCAA.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
