As a global leader in life sciences research support, STEMCELL Technologies is looking to expand our UK Instrumentation team with a Manager, Instrumentation Manufacturing. In this role, you will support the manufacture and delivery of innovative cell sorting instruments and consumables that combine complex electro-mechanical systems with precision fluidics and optics to enable cutting-edge life sciences research. As the Manager, Instrumentation Manufacturing, you will lead production operations and support our team of technicians to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant manufacture, test and delivery of our instrumentation products. You will also play an important role in introducing new products and product changes into production, ensuring manufacturing processes, documentation, equipment and training are ready for routine manufacture. This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with Supply Chain Operations, Procurement, Engineering and Quality to ensure manufacturing capability supports both current production and future product introductions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the UK Instrumentation manufacturing team, including resource allocation, training, performance and career development to ensure production demands are met.
- Oversee the manufacture, assembly, test and delivery of cell sorting instruments and associated single-use cartridges.
- Oversee the manufacturing facility, including workspace allocation, production equipment, parts storage and material flow.
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed and manufacturing activities remain compliant with the Quality Management System, ISO standards and applicable GMP requirements.
- Support the transfer of new products and product changes from development into routine manufacture, including process readiness, documentation, training and production scale-up.
- Drive continuous improvement of manufacturing processes with a focus on product quality, efficiency, yield and cost.
Knowledge and Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline, with 10+ years of production or manufacturing management experience in a regulated environment.
- Knowledge and experience of high-precision electro-mechanical assembly systems, including mechanical, electrical, fluidic and optical assembly, test and calibration techniques.
- Demonstrated experience supporting new product introduction and transfer of products from development into manufacture.
- Demonstrated manufacturing management and planning experience with multiple product lines.
- Proficiency with common ERP/MRP systems; SyteLine or SAP experience is advantageous.
- Experience working within ISO 13485, GMP and/or cleanroom manufacturing environments is an asset.
- Previous experience in life sciences instrumentation, biological manufacturing or medical devices is an asset.
