The Configuration Engineer will provide a key supporting function within the Design Engineering department, for configuration and change management, principally using the Autodesk Vault Product Data Management (PDM) tool. This holds data from individual CAD drawings, electronics schematics, through to full-scale assemblies for complete products and sub-systems. They will also be responsible for facilitating Engineering change reviews via the Change Control Board process. This role will be the gatekeeper for the control and revision state of engineering designs and supporting documents. They will also be the facilitator for all internal reviews of design and proposed changes. Typical projects reside within the naval or aerospace environment, for prime contractors and Tier one suppliers. This role requires strong prior experience of using and managing PDM software tools and the processes for the management and change of data across design/product life-cycles, including the interface between design & development and production engineering.

- Creation and maintenance of digital infrastructure and maintenance of component & part libraries within Autodesk Vault PDM tool.
- Creation and maintenance of new project file properties and metadata within Autodesk Vault PDM tool.
- Manage release control of design data across the development lifecycles; from initial concept, through to the establishment of configuration baselines during key design reviews.
- Manage the engineering change process, and all reviews and approvals needed for compliance and success.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to further develop the Autodesk Vault PDM and other supporting tools as an integrated Configuration Management System, to meet the needs of Design, Development and Systems Integration projects.
- Support the development of improved business system linkages, for example export/automation of data transfer from the PDM tool to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools.
- Support annual review of processes for design/product lifecycle management, aligned to relevant Quality and Defence Standards.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Clear understanding and experience of setting up/use of PDM tools for configuration control of design data and technical documentation.
- An engineering background and competency with IT systems.
- Experience of technical library environment, or drawing office environment.
- Experience of working in a technically regulated engineering industry (defence, aerospace, medical, nuclear for example).
- Working knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 business management system.
- Commitment to quality.
- Open and collaborative style where ideas are shared and challenged.
- Eligible for UK security clearances.
