The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading and co-ordinating electrical fitting activities on complex defence systems, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with defence, quality and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supervising a team of Engineering Technicians, Installation Fitters, and apprentices across defence projects.
- Installing, assembling, wiring, terminating, testing, and fault-finding electrical systems and assemblies.
- Interpreting and working from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and work instructions.
- Ensuring all electrical work complies with relevant MoD and Defence Standards/specifications, and company procedures.
- Conducting inspections, testing, and verification of completed work.
- Liaising with engineering, quality assurance, and project teams to support continuous improvement.
- Supporting training, mentoring, and skills development within the Installation team.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Proven leadership and integration experience of electrical/mechanical engineering within an industrial, maritime, or defence environment.
- Experience of gathering and documenting evidence to support acceptance, fitness for purpose, legislative requirements, and safety.
- Ability to help generate design documentation and technical reports and review/assure documentation generated by others.
- Ability to interface with related disciplines including systems engineering, mechanical engineering, Integrated Logistics Support, Safety, Product Data Management, and manufacturing areas.
- Recognised UK electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, AM2, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
- Electrical Testing & Inspection qualification (2391 or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
- In-date passport and clean Category B driving licence.
- Fibre optic installation and testing certifications.
- Experience using OTDRs, fibre power meters, and cable certification tools.
- Maritime or offshore safety certifications.
