STS Aviation Services is hiring an SMS Engineer to join our expanding Safety and Compliance team in Manchester. If you want to play a pivotal role in strengthening operational safety at one of the UK’s leading MRO providers, this is your opportunity. You will help shape a safer, smarter, more proactive working environment, supporting our continued growth and commitment to excellence. This role is ideal for someone who brings technical expertise, regulatory understanding, and a passion for building a strong safety culture. You will work alongside engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure safety data is captured, analysed, and actioned effectively. The position follows a Monday to Friday working pattern, with flexibility required to support operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the ongoing development monitoring and enhancement of the company’s Safety Management System in accordance with ICAO Annex 19 and Part 145 requirements.
- Conduct safety audits inspections and investigations producing detailed reports and root cause analyses (RCA).
- Monitor safety performance indicators and ensure timely closure of safety actions.
- Facilitate hazard identification risk assessments and safety workshops across maintenance teams.
- Manage and analyse safety reports within the SMS platform (Centrik preferred).
- Support compliance monitoring activities and ensure findings are accurately recorded and addressed.
- Assist with the development and delivery of safety communications and training material.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and production departments to enhance safety awareness and operational safety performance.
- Promote a positive safety culture and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within safety quality and compliance functions.
Skills and Experience
- BSc in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent qualification (for example EASA Part 66 licensed engineer).
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in a Part 145 maintenance safety or compliance role.
- Strong knowledge of EASA and CAA Part 145 regulations and Safety Management System concepts (ICAO Annex 19).
- Up to date training in Human Factors, EWIS and Fuel Tank Safety (FTS).
- Experience conducting safety audits investigations and producing RCA reports.
- Familiarity with the Centrik SMS platform is preferred.
- Excellent communication, analytical and technical reporting skills.
- Proven understanding of fixed wing maintenance safety hazards (B737, B777, A320, A330).
