The head of operations is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of all operational activities within the region. The role ensures that operations are executed in accordance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practice, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism. As a key member of the regional leadership team, the head of operations plays a central role in driving operational excellence, embracing innovation to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, and supporting the delivery of the regional strategy.
Working closely with the regional director and business development manager, the role contributes to growth initiatives by ensuring that operational capability, safety, and risk considerations are embedded into business development and commercial decision‑making, supported by a strong growth mindset.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage all operational activities within the region, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable service delivery.
- Act as a visible safety leader, championing the company’s Life Saving Rules and promoting a strong safety culture.
- Ensure all operational processes, procedures, and risk assessments are developed, maintained, and consistently applied to a high standard.
- Maintain full compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry standards, including those relating to ship‑to‑ship transfer operations.
- Drive operational excellence by setting clear standards, monitoring performance, and embedding continuous improvement.
- Identify and implement innovative solutions, including technology, systems, and process improvements, to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
- Provide operational input into business development initiatives, tenders, and proposals, ensuring opportunities are technically feasible, safely deliverable, and appropriately resourced.
- Work closely with the Business Development Manager to support client engagement and provide operational credibility during technical discussions.
- Manage operational resources, including personnel and equipment, ensuring competence, readiness, and effective utilisation.
- Lead incident reporting, investigation, and learning processes, ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into future operations.
- Develop and mentor operational leaders and teams, promoting competence, accountability, and a growth mindset.
- Provide regular operational performance reports and insights to the Regional Director.
- Ensure robust operational governance frameworks are in place with clear accountability and escalation routes.
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage operational risks, implementing effective controls and mitigations.
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Maintain accurate, auditable operational records to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Uphold ethical standards and professional conduct across all operational activities.
- Hold delegated authority for day‑to‑day operational decisions within agreed limits.
- Make operational judgements to manage safety, risk, and performance, escalating material issues as appropriate.
- Contribute to workforce planning, recruitment, competency management, and performance reviews.
- Recommend investments in equipment, systems, and capability enhancements to support operational excellence.
- Significant experience in a senior operational role within a maritime, energy, offshore, or logistics environment.
- Strong working knowledge of ship‑to‑ship transfer operations and the associated regulatory framework.
- Demonstrable experience leading safe and compliant operations in a regulated or high‑risk environment.
- Proven ability to develop and implement operational procedures, risk assessments, and control measures.
- Degree‑level qualification or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience supporting business development activities from an operational or technical perspective.
- Exposure to international or multi‑jurisdictional operations.
- Experience implementing new technologies or systems to improve operational efficiency.
