STS Aviation Services is hiring a B1 Aircraft Mechanic to support aircraft modification and maintenance activity at our Birmingham operation. This role is hands‑on, detail‑driven, and critical to ensuring the technical integrity, safety, and compliance of all work performed on live aircraft.
You will work under the direction of a B1 Engineer and play an essential role in supporting complex mechanical installations, system testing, and aircraft modification programmes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Carry out aircraft modifications and maintenance in accordance with approved drawings and maintenance data
- Take full accountability for the technical integrity of all work performed
- Complete strip and removal of minor and major aircraft equipment
- Interpret technical manuals, technical drawings, and regulatory requirements
- Install complex mechanical assemblies in line with approved data
- Support aircraft system testing, validation, and troubleshooting activities
- Provide regular updates on work progress, issues, and proposed solutions
- Promptly report any unsafe conditions to the B1 Engineer and through internal reporting channels
- Maintain the highest standards of tool control within the work area
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment
- Completed an engineering apprenticeship, ideally in Aeronautical Engineering or military equivalent
- Ideally two years of live aircraft mechanical experience
- Previous aircraft production experience
- Aircraft modification experience is advantageous
- Excellent hand skills and mechanical aptitude
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent knowledge of mechanical aircraft systems
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to work in a structured environment
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom
- Subject to UK security vetting
- Initial and continuation Human Factors training
- Initial and continuation SFAR Phase 1 and Phase 2 training
- Initial and continuation EWIS Group 1 and Group 2 training
- ETOPS RVSM
