We’re looking for a strategic and commercially driven Business Development Director to build and lead our business development function. This is a senior role focused on winning new clients, expanding existing client partnerships, and driving sustainable revenue growth. You will shape and deliver our business development strategy, identifying where we focus, how we position ourselves, and how we win. You’ll own the full sales lifecycle, from prospecting through to closing, while building a strong pipeline of high‑value opportunities. Working closely with leadership and cross‑functional teams, you’ll bring together the right expertise to create compelling proposals and pitches and maximise our chances of success. You’ll also lead and develop our BD team, embedding a high‑performance, collaborative culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Define and deliver a focused business development strategy aligned to company goals
  • Win new‑to‑business clients and drive growth within existing accounts
  • Own and lead the end‑to‑end sales process, including pitches and contracting
  • Build and maintain a high‑quality pipeline of opportunities
  • Develop impactful credentials and sales materials
  • Provide clear pipeline and forecast updates to leadership
  • Lead, coach and develop the BD team
  • Collaborate with marketing and internal experts to support successful bids

About you

You’re a proven business developer with a strong track record in a medical communications agency. You combine strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery and thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative setting.

  • Proven success winning new business and delivering against revenue targets
  • Experience managing the full sales cycle end‑to‑end
  • Ability to identify and convert opportunities within existing clients
  • Strong commercial judgement and positioning skills
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Strong understanding of the pharma/medical communications landscape
  • Confident using CRM systems and managing sales data

This role is based in the UK (Manchester or Oxfordshire or remote/hybrid) and candidates must be able to provide documentary evidence of right to work in the UK.
