The Transport Supervisor is responsible for overseeing efficient, compliant, and cost-effective transport operations at the Depot. This role ensures that delivery performance, hygiene, quality, and safety standards are consistently met while promoting best practices and continuous improvement across the transport function.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all customer (internal and external) delivery requirements are met daily.
- Act as the main point of contact between our clients management and customers.
- Continuously review and optimise operations to maximise efficiency and profitability.
- Manage both in-house and subcontracted fleet operations to deliver cost-effective solutions.
- Oversee day-to-day driver management, including debriefs, scheduling, and performance.
- Provide coaching, training, and development to enhance team capability and operational efficiency.
- Maintain a motivated and engaged transport team.
- Provide out-of-hours support for customers and drivers as required.
- Conduct regular vehicle, trailer, and driver checks to ensure reliability, presentation, and compliance.
- Manage all in-cab and transport management systems (TMS) effectively.
- Oversee driver training programmes, including Driver CPC compliance.
- Ensure adherence to all internal company policies, processes, and procedures.
Compliance & Legislative Control
- Support CPC Holders in ensuring compliance with VOSA Operator Licence requirements.
- Ensure drivers comply with hours, tachograph regulations, and speed limits.
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure prompt resolution of any defects.
- Maintain accurate vehicle defect and maintenance records for a minimum of 15 months.
- Ensure vehicles are not overloaded and are kept at authorised operating centres when not in use.
- Maintain up-to-date fleet records, including daily checks, defect reporting, and servicing (DOE, tail lifts, tachograph calibration, MOTs).
- Tachograph data for vehicles and drivers.
- Management of tachograph infringements and disciplinary actions when required.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation, including Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), Risk Assessments, Toolbox Talks, LOLER, PUWER, and RIDDOR regulations.
- Oversee all aspects of fleet compliance.
Reporting & Performance
- Produce and maintain regular reports in line with operational and compliance requirements.
- Monitor KPIs and performance metrics to ensure continuous improvement.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Strong general transport knowledge and operational understanding.
- Experience with Operator Licence (O-Licence) compliance.
- Excellent computer literacy, including experience with fleet management and TMS software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or willingness to undertake training.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate teams effectively.
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with customers, drivers, and suppliers.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing operational demands.
