We are looking for a dedicated, experienced and motivated Occupational Health Clinical Lead to join Durham Constabulary, helping to support the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead, manage and develop a proactive Occupational Health Service that is responsive to the needs of the organisation and supports the delivery of an outstanding policing service.
As Occupational Health Clinical Lead, you will provide expert clinical leadership, working closely with frontline teams, HR, Health and Safety, external providers and wider stakeholders to enhance the quality, consistency and effectiveness of Occupational Health service provision.
The Role
The Occupational Health Clinical Lead will be responsible for leading and developing a proactive clinical Occupational Health Service for Durham Constabulary, ensuring the service meets legislative, organisational and individual needs.
You will support the development and delivery of Occupational Health strategy, policy, practice and service level agreements, ensuring the service demonstrates best value and supports the organisation in reducing avoidable sickness absence.
This role will also provide expert consultation on complex clinical cases, oversee external providers and contracted services, manage service budgets and KPIs, and support key processes including adjusted duties, ill health retirement and injury awards.

- What You’ll Do
- Lead, manage and develop a proactive clinical Occupational Health Service that is responsive to organisational need.
- Assist the Head of HR in developing Occupational Health strategy, policy, practice and service level agreements.
- Provide expert clinical consultation on complex cases, using evidence-based and reflective practice.
- Manage and coordinate the activities of the Occupational Health Service, including integration between internal and external providers.
- Oversee external providers and contracted services to ensure high-quality Occupational Health support and compliance with agreed standards.
- Work closely with HR, Health and Safety and other departments to promote a safe and supportive working environment.
- Manage service budgets, monitor KPIs and produce reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead on the management of adjusted duties, ill health retirement and injury award processes in line with relevant policy, regulations and guidance.
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks for Occupational Health services, ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Design and oversee Occupational Health programmes, including health surveillance, risk assessments and health promotion initiatives.
- Lead, motivate and develop Occupational Health staff, supporting their personal and professional development.
- Deliver high standards of service aligned with organisational priorities and professional standards.
- What You’ll Bring
- A specialist community public health nurse, Occupational Health Diploma/Degree or equivalent qualification.
- Registration as a general nurse, NMC register part 1.
- At least five years’ management experience within an Occupational Health environment.
- At least five years’ professional Occupational Health experience.
- Experience of providing strategic leadership and managing a department.
