EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: BILINGUAL PART-TIME ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATORS

The Education Department at Stroud Water Research Center is seeking bilingual (Spanish/English) part‑time environmental educators to teach stream study programs. The primary audience is school students in grades three through 12 participating in stream study programs based at the Stroud Center and off‑site venues. Additional programming includes education and outreach to audiences of all ages within the community, educator professional development workshops, scout groups, family programs, and more.

Primary Duties:

• Teach engaging environmental education programs to a wide variety of audiences, primarily stream study programs to grades three through 12.
• Typical program instructional content includes macroinvertebrate life history and bioassessment, stream water chemistry, stream habitat assessment, overall stream and watershed ecology topics, riparian restoration and monitoring, sustainable building and laboratory tours, and other topics designed and selected for school and other youth programs.
• Host exhibit tables at community events and conferences.
• Lead professional development workshops for teachers and non‑formal educators.
• Assist with training community scientists in stream monitoring protocols.
• Assist with other department activities and grant‑funded projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Demonstrated teaching experience (formal and/or non‑formal), watershed subject‑matter expertise, and pedagogical knowledge.
• Ability to lead participants of all ages and types in an engaging educational and professional manner.
• Experience working with Spanish‑speaking communities and fluency in both Spanish and English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching credentials for pre‑K through 12th grades, environmental educators, interpreters of natural history, and professionals with similar degrees and/or credentials.
• Prior work experience in watershed education.
• Familiarization with instructional technology, canoe‑based instruction, fishing instruction, and experience with underserved audiences.

Employment Requirements:

• All educators must complete and submit background checks and clearances as detailed in Stroud Water Research Center’s policy PD 14, the SWRC Child Abuse Policy, and the Risk Management Program.
• These documents are not required at the time of application but are required before starting employment.
• The Stroud Center will reimburse employees upon hire for the costs of these clearances and background checks.

Salary and Benefits:

• Part‑time educators are scheduled as needed and paid as hourly employees (with FICA benefits only).
• There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours per week or per instructional season.
• Paid education staff training days are also scheduled each year.
• Instructors will be contacted by the assistant director of education as needed to be scheduled to teach.
• Educators will be paid at an hourly rate comparable to local substitute teacher pay, ranging between $15 and $25 per hour.
