Stroud District Council is looking for an enthusiastic person with a commitment to helping the public to join our Housing Advice Team. This is a key post in a busy team delivering the Council’s housing advice and homelessness functions. The Housing Advice Team has an impressive record of preventing homelessness and we are looking for candidates to help build on our success.

The purpose of this role is principally focused on homelessness relief and final duty decisions, in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017; including the booking of interim and temporary accommodation and helping customers access a range of housing solutions and outcomes.

About you

You’ll have experience of working in a similar role and will be passionate and enthusiastic about helping people in housing need. You will have worked within a front-line role previously and be able to deliver exceptional customer service whilst working under pressure. Knowledge of the Housing Act and the Homelessness Reduction Act is essential for this role.

The successful candidate will be part of a busy team dealing with all aspects of homelessness, housing advice and managing the housing register (HomeseekerPlus). The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Experience of dealing with people in difficult situations
  • A knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 as amended Part VI allocations and Part VII homelessness
  • Experience of working in the housing profession
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • High standards of written and verbal communication skills

A local government reorganisation is planned for Gloucestershire, which may result in changes to structures and services. Potential changes are provisionally timetabled for April 2028.
