We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, reliable, and customer-focused Casual Recreation Officers to join our team.

Job summary

This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of the centre’s daily operation. As a Recreation Officer, you will primarily be responsible for lifeguarding duties to ensure the safety of all pool users, while also supporting activities across the wider facility. Whether supervising the pool, setting up equipment, or assisting customers, you will play a key role in delivering a positive experience for all visitors.

The centre is open 7 days a week from 6.00am – 10.00pm. This is a casual position, so applicants must be flexible and available to work a range of shifts, including evenings and weekends. During the summer season, you will also be expected to be available at short notice to support staffing requirements at Stratford Park Lido. No previous leisure experience is required – full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing lifeguarding cover in line with Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP)
  • Monitoring pool users at all times to ensure safety and taking appropriate action where required
  • Responding effectively and calmly to incidents and emergency situations
  • Supporting the setup and takedown of equipment for sports hall and other activities
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across all areas of the facility
  • Delivering excellent customer service in a friendly and professional manner
  • Supporting the delivery of aquatic and dryside activities where required
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the centre
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive environment for all customers

Training and Development

Full training will be provided to the successful candidates.

  • Funding will be available for the National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (NPLQ) for those who are not already qualified
  • Candidates must successfully complete a swim assessment before training
  • Successful candidates who do not already hold the NPLQ will be required to attend a full training course at Active Lifestyles Dursley from 13th – 18th July (inclusive)
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities will be provided
