Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced and commercially astute Senior Buyer to play a key role in managing and developing our supply base. This position is critical to ensure continuity of supply, value for money, and strong supplier performance across the business. You will take ownership of the end‑to‑end procurement lifecycle, from supplier selection and contract negotiation, through to post‑purchase analysis and continuous improvement. Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will help drive operational excellence while supporting business growth and profitability.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to support procurement and operational objectives.
  • Manage a portfolio of suppliers, with a focus on optimising existing partnerships while identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure optimal pricing, terms, service levels, and OTIF delivery performance.
  • Oversee supplier performance on quality, cost, delivery, and service, driving corrective actions where required.
  • Negotiate and monitor stock levels to balance availability, working capital, and risk.
  • Manage purchasing of both standard and non‑standard stock items.
  • Support existing business projects and contribute to ad‑hoc procurement initiatives as required.
  • Execute stock control, administration, and purchasing activities, including preparing and processing purchase orders.
  • Carry out supplier benchmarking and cost analysis to support continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate procurement reporting, KPI tracking, and statistical analysis.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company’s product ranges, applications, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure all procurement activities align with company strategy, quality standards, and best practice initiatives.
  • Proactively identify risks within the supply chain, initiate mitigating actions, and escalate issues to the Operations Director where appropriate.
  • Maximise profitability while minimising commercial, operational, and supply risks to the business.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support the business.

Qualifications:

  • CIPS qualification or significant procurement experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Proven experience implementing and managing procurement processes and operational procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience producing documentation for tenders, negotiations, reports, and presentations.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems with the ability to analyse data and drive supplier performance.
  • Proven negotiation skills with the confidence to challenge costs, secure value, and influence key stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Hours of Work: The hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 7.30am – 16.30pm, Wednesday, 7.00am – 4.00pm and Friday 7.00am – 2.45pm.
