An established and growing building services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support continued growth across its commercial HVAC portfolio. The role involves the preparation and pricing of HVAC tenders for commercial projects across the UK, covering both design & build and traditional procurement routes. This is a key position within the pre-construction team, working closely with directors, project managers, and the wider delivery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC mechanical tender returns from drawings and specifications
- Produce Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for HVAC and associated mechanical works
- Price both design & build and traditional tenders, including ERs and outline designs
- Carry out full HVAC take-offs including ductwork, pipework, AC systems, plant, insulation, and ancillaries
- Build detailed cost estimates covering labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, and preliminaries
- Issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors and evaluate returned quotations
- Review tender documentation to identify risks, exclusions, clarifications, and value-engineering opportunities
- Support post-tender interviews and assist with technical and commercial clarifications
- Handover secured projects to delivery teams and support project managers as required
- Maintain up-to-date pricing, labour rates, and estimating data
- Build and maintain strong client and supply-chain relationships
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a Mechanical / HVAC Estimating role
- Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and UK construction practices
- Proven experience producing detailed HVAC tenders and BOQs
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Competent with estimating and take-off software (Ensign experience advantageous)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
