An experienced Groundworks Estimator is required to join a well-established contractor delivering major earthworks and infrastructure packages across London and the South East. The role will suit someone comfortable pricing complex groundworks packages on large-scale commercial and infrastructure projects.
You’ll be responsible for producing accurate tenders from first principles, working closely with pre-construction, commercial, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for groundworks, earthworks, and infrastructure packages
- Carry out take-offs and measurement from drawings and specifications
- Price works including bulk excavation, drainage, piling mats, external works, services, and remediation
- Analyse tender documents, drawings, and geotechnical reports
- Build up rates from first principles and subcontractor quotations
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing
- Identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and commercial clarifications
- Support tender adjudications and pre-contract meetings
- Assist with post-tender handover to delivery and commercial teams
- Proven experience as a Groundworks / Civil / Earthworks Estimator
- Strong background in earthworks and infrastructure projects
- Experience pricing projects across commercial, residential, and infrastructure sectors
- Ability to work from first principles
- Strong understanding of ground conditions, temporary works, and sequencing
- Excellent commercial and analytical skills
- Confident communicator with internal teams and external supply chain
- HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction-related discipline
- Relevant estimating or commercial qualifications
- £70,000 – £85,000 basic (negotiable depending on experience)
