Our client is a leading, global multi-modal freight company. We are delighted to assist them in their search for an experienced Transport Planner professional as they look to add to the planning team.
As a deep water cargo terminal close to the main shipping channels, the site is ideally positioned to handle goods from ship to shore and beyond. Located within Portsmouth International Port with direct access to the national motorway network, they are the first choice for customers looking for an efficient and cost-effective cargo handling and stevedore service. Fresh produce is the core business, from pineapples, sweet potatoes, and citrus to tomatoes, not to mention the majority of bananas eaten in the UK!
They need an experienced and highly organised Transport Planner (Containers) to join the busy operations team in Portsmouth. This is a pivotal role within the transport department, ensuring the efficient planning and coordination of container movements across the South, with occasional involvement at London Gateway.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and allocate daily container haulage work across the company fleet.
- Proactively forward-plan workloads to maximise efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and subcontractors.
- Manage delays and operational issues in a professional, solution‑focused manner.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records using transport management systems and digital tools.
- Occasionally required to assist with general haulage.
- Proven experience in container haulage planning.
- Strong knowledge of port operations and regional transport routes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient IT skills; experience using TOPS is a strong advantage.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound operational decisions.
- Flexibility to participate in an on‑call rota.
