Our client is a leading UK-based Food Group, servicing the Foodservice, Retail and Wholesale sectors. We are delighted to assist them in their search for an experienced production and manufacturing management professional as they look to recruit a Factory Manager at their site in Poole, Dorset.
The Factory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a meat processing and wholesale facility, ensuring efficient production, food safety compliance, quality standards, staff management, and on-time customer fulfilment. The role focuses on maximizing productivity, maintaining regulatory compliance, controlling costs, and ensuring high standards of hygiene, health, and safety across all factory operations. The Factory Manager works closely with procurement, production, warehouse, logistics, sales, and quality assurance teams to ensure smooth end-to-end operations within the supply chain.
Key Accountabilities as Factory Manager:
- Manage day-to-day factory and production operations within the meat processing facility.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Monitor workflow, labour utilization, and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate receiving, processing, packing, storage, and dispatch activities.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, HACCP, BRC, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
- Maintain strict temperature control and traceability procedures.
- Conduct regular factory inspections and audits.
- Ensure all processes comply with local authority and environmental regulations.
- Monitor product quality, shelf life, and wastage levels.
- Investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance teams to maintain product standards.
- Lead, supervise, and develop production, warehouse, and hygiene teams.
- Manage staffing levels, shift planning, and labour productivity.
- Conduct training on food safety, operational procedures, and workplace safety.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor stock levels of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
- Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure uninterrupted supply and timely deliveries.
- Minimize waste, shrinkage, and stock losses.
- Ensure accurate inventory records and stock rotation (FIFO).
- Maintain a safe working environment across the facility.
- Ensure compliance with all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Investigate accidents and implement preventive measures.
- Promote safe equipment handling and operational practices.
- Monitor operational costs, labour costs, and production efficiency.
- Manage factory budgets and resource allocation.
- Track and report key operational KPIs.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings.
The Ideal Person for the Factory Manager role:
- Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Food Production, Supply Chain, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in factory or production management within meat processing, food manufacturing, or wholesale operations.
- Strong knowledge of meat processing operations and food safety standards.
- Experience managing large operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of HACCP, BRC, and health & safety regulations.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
