Our vibrant Bristol studio is seeking an experienced and proactive Architect to take a lead role within our Workplace and Commercial sector. This is an opportunity for an Architect ready to step up into project leadership or senior level role, where you will hold influence over design direction and project delivery from Stage 2 through to completion. You will join a talented team known for forward-thinking and sustainable design, who are currently delivering major campus based workplace and commercial spaces. We are looking for someone with the technical expertise and leadership skills to deliver high-quality, sustainable architecture while helping to drive the future of our commercial sector.
Why this role? This is a rare opportunity to manage projects autonomously. You will work closely with our Sector Directors to shape project outcomes, engage directly with statutory authorities, and play an active role in the development of our practice’s commercial footprint.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Development & Compliance: Take a client brief and develop efficient, effective designs using robust and sustainable solutions. Ensure all work is compliant with UK Building Regulations, construction law, British Standards, and relevant Codes of Practice (CoPs).
- Technical Specification: Advise on material selection and assist in the production of NBS specifications.
- Statutory Leadership: Lead the preparation and completion of statutory submissions, including Planning Applications, Building Regulations, and Building Safety Gateways.
- Negotiation & Reporting: Act as a primary point of contact for project delivery; you will negotiate directly with statutory bodies, draft technical reports, and manage all necessary submissions.
- Collaborative Delivery: Attend and lead meetings and workshops with clients, designers, contractors, and other specialists.
- Risk Management: Support the Project Lead in the management and maintenance of Design Risk Registers.
- Sector Growth: Collaborate with the Sector Director to identify new opportunities, contributing to the practice’s design language and business development within the commercial sector.
Who you are
You have significant experience delivering complex workplace or commercial projects in the UK. You are comfortable navigating the Building Safety Act, technical statutory requirements, and complex regulatory frameworks. You are an ambitious Architect looking for a firm that offers a clear path to Senior or Associate status, where your technical expertise and contribution to the team are valued.
