We are representing a specialty insurance firm that is part of a major global carrier with over 40,000 employees worldwide. The business has a long history in Commercial and Specialty products and offers a stable platform for career growth.
The role
- Lead and manage a team of up to 10 underwriters through their day-to-day work.
- Ensure work is fairly allocated and deadlines are met.
- Provide guidance to junior team members and ongoing support to more experienced underwriters.
- Oversee training programmes and identify knowledge gaps across the team.
- Act as a point of contact for brokers where service improvements are needed.
- Learn the niche specialties of the business in order to support underwriting decisions.
- Be present in the London office 2–3 days per week (more in the early months).
What we are looking for
- Strong team leadership and people management experience within Commercial underwriting.
- At least 5 years’ experience in Commercial underwriting (mainstream or specialty).
- Ability to identify strengths, manage workloads, and support training needs.
- A collaborative and approachable style, with clear communication skills.
- An interest in people development, mentoring, and building team cohesion.
