Senior Development Underwriter

A growing insurer is looking for a high‑calibre Senior Development Underwriter to drive broker growth across Yorkshire and the North East.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial underwriter who knows how to win, retain and grow broker relationships while underwriting complex SME/Mid Market risks profitably. The role blends trading, relationship management and technical underwriting, with the freedom to work in a hybrid model across home, broker visits and a regional office base.

As a Senior Development Underwriter you will be:

• Building and developing relationships with key regional and strategic brokers to deliver growth.
• Driving new business through tactical trading and smart portfolio development.
• Underwriting larger and more complex commercial risks within the SME/Mid Market space.
• Carrying out broker reviews, training activity and proposition‑led conversations to improve performance.
• Supporting colleagues with referrals, coaching and technical underwriting expertise.
• Helping deliver retention, rate improvement and profitable long‑term account development.

As a Senior Development Underwriter you will have:

• A proven commercial underwriter with strong broker relationship skills and real market presence.
• Experience underwriting more complex commercial risks with a disciplined but commercial mindset.
• Strong account and portfolio management capability, with the ability to balance growth and profitability.
• Confidence operating independently while also contributing strongly within a wider team.
• Excellent communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to influence outcomes.
• Around five years or more of relevant underwriting experience, ideally with Dip CII completed or in progress.

As a Senior Development Underwriter you will get:

• Salary to £70,000
