Account Executive in Cardiff

Account Executive in Cardiff

Cardiff Full-Time On-site
S

If you are an established Commercial Account Executive who still enjoys winning business but would rather build from a stronger starting point than a completely cold desk, this is a role worth considering.

The opportunity is development-focused, but you would inherit an existing portfolio producing around £300,000 to £400,000 of income, giving you a solid client base to manage while you concentrate on generating new business across South Wales and the South West.

There is no requirement for regular office attendance. You will be trusted to manage your territory, client relationships and development activity in the way that works best, with the backing of a substantial broking platform behind you.

The opportunity

This role is aimed at an experienced Account Executive who can operate with a high degree of autonomy and already understands how to develop meaningful commercial relationships.

You will take responsibility for an established book while building additional income through your own network, referrals and prospecting activity. The existing portfolio gives the role some immediate substance, but the longer-term opportunity is centred around growth.

You will also have access to broad insurer relationships, specialist insurance expertise and the resources of a major UK broking group, which should give you considerably more scope when competing for larger or more complex opportunities.

What the role looks like

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and retaining an existing commercial portfolio producing approximately £300,000 to £400,000 of income.
  • Developing new commercial insurance opportunities across Cardiff, South Wales and the South West.
  • Building relationships with business owners, finance leaders and other senior decision-makers.
  • Creating a sustainable pipeline through your existing network, referrals, introducers and targeted development activity.
  • Leading renewal and placement strategy for your clients alongside broking and technical colleagues.
  • Identifying opportunities to broaden existing client relationships through additional products and specialist capabilities.
  • Working with insurers to secure competitive and appropriate solutions for clients.
  • Maintaining strong retention while continuing to grow the overall portfolio.

Who this could suit

  • You will already be an experienced Commercial Account Executive, Development Executive or Senior Client Director with a strong track record in the UK commercial insurance market.
  • You should be comfortable winning your own business and able to demonstrate that you have developed commercial accounts rather than purely inherited and serviced an existing portfolio.
  • You are likely to have an established professional network across South Wales or the South West and the credibility to deal directly with senior decision-makers. Experience handling larger SME, mid-market or more complex commercial risks would be particularly relevant.
  • This is a senior hire, so the business is looking for someone who understands how to manage their own pipeline, protect client relationships and create sustainable growth without needing a heavily structured sales environment around them.

The business

  • You will be joining one of the UK's larger insurance broking groups, with significant market reach and access to expertise across a wide range of commercial and specialist insurance classes.
  • For an Account Executive, the attraction is the combination of autonomy and infrastructure. You can develop relationships locally and run your portfolio with considerable independence, while drawing on specialist teams, insurer relationships and broader placement capability when a client requires something beyond a straightforward regional broking solution.

Package and working pattern

  • The basic salary is expected to be between £60,000 and £80,000 depending on experience, alongside a wider package appropriate to a senior commercial broking position.
  • The role can be based around Cardiff, elsewhere in South Wales or across the South West of England.
  • There is no regular office presence attached to the position, so it should suit someone who is comfortable operating remotely and spending their time where it matters most, whether that is with clients, prospects or professional contacts across their territory.

The next step

If you are an experienced Account Executive who wants to retain the freedom to develop your own market while having an established book and the backing of a much larger broking platform, it would be worth a confidential conversation.

I can give you a clear picture of the existing portfolio, the expectations around new business and how much autonomy you would have before you decide whether it is something you want to explore further.
