Dstl is led by a Board of Directors which includes the Chair and five Non-Executive Members (including one MOD NEM). We seek an exceptional individual to join the Dstl Board as a Non-executive Member (NEM), with anticipated start date 01 December 2024, subject to security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Provide an independent perspective to the strategic direction of Dstl’s work
- Encourage and support Dstl’s drive for continuous improvement through objective, constructive challenge and scrutiny of Dstl’s performance
- Make a creative contribution by questioning existing ways of working and encouraging innovation and new thinking
- Share knowledge and expertise with both the Board and individual Executive Directors as appropriate
- Contribute to Board sub-committees and significant change programme boards as appropriate
- Build effective relationships with Board colleagues, internal and external stakeholders
- Actively communicate Dstl’s role to internal and external stakeholders, and understand any challenges/concerns
- Undertake Security Check clearance
- Abide by the Seven Principles of Public Life and the Code of Conduct for Board Members

- Time Commitment: 30 days per annum
- Remuneration: £18,000 per annum
Qualifications and Experience
- Senior leadership experience, able to contribute to strategy, introduce new thinking, and challenge existing ways
- Driving delivery and transformational change at a senior level
- Ability to provide challenging and supportive role to the Dstl Chair, Chief Executive, and senior executives using sound judgment, analysis, and decision-making skills
- Engaging and collaborative working style with demonstrating leadership and influencing skills with a range of stakeholders
- Understanding of one or more fields: Science, technology and innovation; Digital, MI, and AI; Infrastructure and safety; Transformation and cultural change
- Strong emphasis on safety in a technological or scientific environment of comparable scale
- Interest in the challenges of Government and understanding of the public sector
- Diversity of thought through wider sector experience
- Mentoring and counseling experience
